‘Health Of The Nation’ Survey To Begin This Month
The Ministry of Health and Wellness (MHW) has advised that the Barbados Health of the Nation Survey 2026 will be conducted across the island starting in July.
This study is being carried out by the George Alleyne Chronic Disease Research Centre at The University of the West Indies and has been commissioned by the MHW to support the development of evidence-based public health policies in Barbados.
This survey aims to understand the health of a population, by capturing:
- Health behaviours and risk factors
- Access to and use of healthcare services
- Social and environmental determinants of health
These data are critical for identifying priority health issues, monitoring trends over time, and guiding effective prevention and intervention strategies.
During the survey period, trained field officers will visit selected households to conduct brief face-to-face interviews and collect basic health measurements.
All field officers will carry official identification cards bearing logos of the Ministry of Health and Wellness and the George Alleyne Chronic Disease Research Centre, along with the officer’s name and contact details. Identification cards will include signatures and verification information, and the field officers will wear branded shirts displaying the survey’s name and institutional logos.
Public cooperation is essential to the success of this national initiative, which will provide critical data to improve health outcomes and guide future health policies in Barbados.
