Health Ministry Hosts Tobago Team In Regional Exchange

The Ministry of Health and Wellness welcomed a delegation from Tobago this week for a technical exchange on health information technology systems.

The seven-member team is led by Deputy Chief Secretary with responsibility for Health and Wellness, HIV and AIDS in the Tobago House of Assembly, Dr. Faith Brebnor.  They were invited for a short technical visit to observe and learn more about the information technology systems used within the Barbados health sector, and hear about the lessons learned in the process, as Tobago is in the planning stage of digitising its health information system.

This meeting follows a recent visit of a Barbados delegation, headed by Senior Minister of Social and Environmental Policy and Transformation of Barbados, Senator, Mr. The Most Honourable Jerome Walcott, to the Tobago House of Assembly, from July 1 to 3.

Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Wellness, Davidson Ishmael, led the Barbados team in welcoming the Tobago delegation of Information Technology and Communication experts. They discussed forming strong partnerships with multilateral development banks, conducting market research for the most suitable systems, sequestering multidisciplinary teams, and the importance of preparing the environment and securing the cyberspace.

Minister Ishmael also spoke about the Staff Clinic at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, which efficiently accommodates staff members using digital systems. During the three-day visit, the Tobago delegation will meet with senior officials of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, including the Consultant for Implementation of Health Information Services. They will also tour two of the island’s polyclinics and the Barbados Drug Service, to observe the medData patient flow and the pharmacy module of the Health Information System.
