Hiking enthusiasts are reminded that the first wellness hike for the year will take place this Saturday, May 30, at Applewhaite’s Plantation, St. George, beginning promptly at 6:00 a.m.
Participants will meet at Applewhaite’s Plantation, and the route will include Jack-in-the-Box Gully and Proute.
The wellness hikes, which have been reintroduced by the Ministry of Health and Wellness, in collaboration with the Ministry of the Public Service, are free to the public. Saturday’s hike is estimated to be completed in two hours.
Individuals – from experienced hikers to beginners – who are just looking to get active, may participate. It is hoped that participants will use this activity as an opportunity to connect with nature, improve health, and spend time with family, friends, and colleagues.
The intensity of the hike is moderate; however, some hiking experience or physical fitness is still a requirement. Persons who are not sure of their level of physical ability should consult a medical doctor before participating.
Individuals are advised to bring sufficient drinking water and healthy snacks to stay hydrated and energised. Additionally, they are further advised to wear suitable clothing to protect their skin when going through bushy areas. Appropriate, enclosed, non-skid shoes are also recommended.
